For Palestinian musicians, touring internationally can mean navigating a system of restrictive visa processes and unequal mobility. While performing in Arab cities like Amman can be relatively straightforward, touring Western countries often presents a different set of challenges. It’s this contradiction that sits at the heart of ‘VISA’, a new single from BLTNM’s Fawzi and Al Nather, which addresses the systemic barriers Palestinian artists face when trying to move across borders, alongside audiences who may not fully understand their cultural context.
Produced by frequent collaborator Al Nather, the track is built around an understated beat, with crisp snares and tight kick patterns driving the rhythm. Lightweight, atmospheric synth melodies and subtle loops leave plenty of space for the vocals, mirroring the track’s unfiltered, nonchalant delivery.
Fawzi adopts a conversational, near-monotone flow, delivering lyrics about systemic barriers with little dramatization, as if describing everyday realities. The deadpan delivery contrasts with the weight of the subject matter, making the commentary feel raw, personal and direct.
Visually, the accompanying release stays consistent with BLTNM’s stripped-back aesthetic, opting for clean, raw visuals that keep the focus on the track’s sonic textures, vocal delivery and narrative.
