Jordanian singer-songwriter Reina Khoury has released her self-titled debut album, REINA, marking her return to music after a two-year hiatus during which she embraced motherhood.
The nine-track project offers a personal look into Khoury’s life as an artist, partner, daughter and mother, exploring themes of vulnerability, self-confidence, love, family and identity. Opening with a poem about motherhood written by Khoury herself, the album moves into ‘Ahla Shu’oor,’ a track inspired by the experience of becoming a mother. Elsewhere, ‘Bi Alami’ and ‘Ana Heik’ explore self-confidence and embracing one’s identity, while ‘Usset Hobna’ draws on classical Jordanian melodies to tell a romantic love story.
The album closes with ‘Amman’, an ode to the city where Khoury was born and raised, reflecting on her connection to home and her Jordanian roots. The project that took two years to make brings together the sounds Khoury grew up with and contemporary pop production.
