Wegz Confronts Love’s Residue on R&B Single ‘El Ayah’

Wegz settles into a slower, more comfortable delivery, letting the melody carry much of the emotion rather than filling every space with bars. Acoustic guitar riffs anchor the song beneath suspenseful synths, while steady claps and softer violin touches give it an uneasy, almost suspended atmosphere. There are subtle shifts in language, too, with Wegz moving between formal Arabic and Levantine Arabic toward the end. The transition feels deliberate and notably smooth, with the change in register fitting naturally into the song. Hussein Gamal, a frequent collaborator who also handles the production, gradually creeps into the background vocals, adding texture without turning the song into a vocal showcase.

The accompanying video, directed by Kafrawy and filmed inside the Maadi villa of Egyptian modernist architect Sayed Karim, sees Wegz and Hussein Gamal appear surrounded by instruments, notebooks, coffee cups, and loose cables, the clutter resembling the remnants of a creative process or two people trying to write their way through something that has already happened. It’s an appropriately intimate setting for a song less interested in grand declarations than in the messier aftermath of wanting someone, losing them, and still being unable to let go.
