Hany Farahat shows how a score gets built

From Egypt’s first music summit, a rare look at composition as a process rather than a finished object.

From the final day of Egypt’s first music summit, we got a rare look into how music is imagined, composed, and brought to life, led by composer and conductor Hany Farahat.

Admired for his expressive artistry and refined versatility, Farahat is the first maestro from the region to perform in world capitals including Tokyo, Sydney, London, and Paris with the Marvels of Saudi Orchestra. Throughout his career, he has led esteemed ensembles and collaborated with celebrated artists including Mohamed Abdo, Rabih Sager, and Angham.

The session also featured a conversation with Ines Abdel Dayem, media and cultural executive and former Minister of Culture, alongside composer and orchestral arranger Mohamed El Ashi. Together, they explored the true essence of music, discussing how the same sounds and melodies can be arranged and interpreted in entirely different ways. The conversation was brought to life through live orchestration and full orchestra performances, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind musical storytelling.
